The Conference

The University of Connecticut Model United Nations (UCMUN) conference brings both local and out-of-state high school students to our Storrs campus for a multi-day United Nations simulation every Fall. Each student, or delegate, represents and debates from the perspective of different countries in one of our numerous committees. UCMUN prides itself on being a learning conference and encourages both a professional and educational experience for delegates.

Responsibilities of Assistant Directors of Committees

Debate in all committees is moderated by one Director and one or two Assistant Directors from the UCMUN staff. Assistant Directors, along with the rest of the staff, attend weekly training meetings during the Fall semester leading up to the conference. These meetings are required so that Assistant Directors are appropriately prepared to help their Directors lead committee sessions during the conference. Prior to the conference, Assistant Directors also write brief topic updates on their committees' two topics for the delegates to use as references.

Responsibilities of Assistant Directors of Administration

Administration consists of a Director of Administration and a number of Assistant Directors from the UCMUN staff. Delegates in each committee produce a variety of documents that need to be circulated to the entire committee. The responsibility of Administration is to prepare these documents for distribution to committees in a timely manner. Assistant Directors attend training meetings during the Fall semester leading up to the conference. These meetings are required so that Assistant Directors are appropriately prepared to help run the busy Administration office during the conference.

Joining our Staff

All prospective UCMUN staff members must participate in the application and hiring process before they may be accepted. In order to be considered for hiring, one must currently be a student at the University of Connecticut.

Upon successful completion of all responsibilities, Assistant Directors receive 1 credit for POLS 3991 - Supervised Field Work.

While a number of our staff members were once delegates at UCMUN, neither previous model United Nations experience nor any particular major is required to join the staff. Please feel free to look around our website for further information about the conference, staff, and our 2008 committees.

Working on the UCMUN staff is truly a rewarding experience, and we hope that you will consider joining us to make our tenth annual conference the most successful yet.

If you have any questions, would like to apply, or simply would like more information on our conference, please do not hesitate to contact one of the following, depending upon which position you are interested in, with the subject line "Joining the Staff". When applying, please attach a completed copy of the appropriate application for review.

IMPORTANT: Assistant Director applications are due this Monday, 8 September 2008 at 6:00pm . Applicants should expect to hear back from UCMUN staff by Wednesday, 10 September 2008.
